Jesus chastises the people for two offenses. The first is a deliberate unwillingness to see what is right before their eyes in the existence of His ministry. Here He is raising the dead, preaching the truth, working healing miracles, and those who claim to follow God are actually opposing Him. Here He is fulfilling the prophecies of the Messiah and yet they object to his ministry. The truth about Christ was plain for all to see, yet He was rejected. The second offense is being more worried about getting the most they can out of their adversary rather than judging what is right. His example is that of two people going before a judge. If both were trying to do what is right, rather than seeing what they could get away with, the judge would be unnecessary. As it is Jesus threatens that justice will be done and what they thought to hide will be exposed.
