           Who We Are
Our Motto :
Green Lakes Baptist Church will be a burning beacon filling Hampton Roads with the light of Jesus and from here, the world.

Our Promise:
We are committed to fulfilling the Great Commission by reaching all people with the gospel and growing them ever closer to Jesus.  We will lift Jesus up in heartfelt worship, enjoy each other in loving fellowship, urge one another closer to Christ through discipleship, minister to those in need, and take the gospel of Christ to all those who do not know Him.

Luke 14:1-6 Rules and Righteousness
Posted on Wednesday, August 27 @ 08:37:27 CDT by PastorDadmin

Da Youtz pastord writes "As we remember, the Jews of Christ’s time had wrapped the commandment to do no work upon the Sabbath in a web of regulations about what constituted work.  In our day that may seem sort of silly.  A day off is a day you do not go in to work or call in to work.  Pretty simple.  But in an agrarian society or one in which your trade is downstairs from your living room, work tends to bleed over into life.  Nevertheless this emphasis upon rules hindered the Pharisees from doing good.  As Jesus is at the house of a leader on the Sabbath He is presented with an ill man.  As the Pharisees watch with bated breath, Jesus asks them if it is lawful to heal upon the Sabbath.  Their silence is deafening.  After Christ heals the man He compares the healing to rescuing a child or ox who fell into a well immediately, rather than telling them to hold out down there until the Sabbath was over.  As usual the answer of Jesus leaves His opponents speechless.  When do our rules about righteous behavior keep us from loving service?  Do we turn a blind eye to needs as we rush to our religious meetings or spend our money for the sake of show?  Let us make sure that what we are obeying is what God really says in His word, not a cultural mask laid over the truth of Christ.
Without Wax,
Dr. Dwight
